This visa category is relevant for Parents who may want to migrate to Australia only if their child who is a settled (lawful resident in Australia for 2 years) Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

The main criteria are as follows:

  • The parent to be sponsored by a child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • The parent must pass the “balance of family test” which is affected by the total number of children and their permanent residence location affects the test.
    • At least half of your children should be permanent residents in Australia;
    • Have more children living permanently in Australia than any other country
  • An assurance of support to provide is required in all cases.

This visa is for settled Australia citizens, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who want to bring their parents to live with them permanently.

With this visa you can

  • move to or stay in Australia as a permanent resident 
  • sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia
  • apply for Australian citizenship if eligible

You must

  • be outside Australia when we decide on your application
  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • meet all applicable visa conditions and follow Australian law
  • not have a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa
  • not marry or enter into a de facto relationship before entering Australia.

This visa is for settled Australia citizens, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who want to bring their parents to live with them permanently in Australia.

With this visa you can

  • move to or stay in Australia as a permanent resident 
  • sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia
  • apply for Australian citizenship if eligible

You must

  • be outside Australia when we decide your application
  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen, unless you are applying for the Retirement Pathway
  • meet the balance-of-family test, unless you are applying for the Retirement Pathway
  • have an Assurance of Support, unless you are applying for the Retirement Pathway
  • not have a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa
  • not marry or enter into a de facto relationship before entering Australia.

This visa is for settled Australia citizens, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who want to bring their parents to live with them permanently in Australia.

With this visa you can

  • stay in Australia as a permanent resident
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare

You must

  • be in Australia, but not in immigration clearance, when you apply for the visa and when we decide on your application
  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia
  • not have a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa

This visa is for settled Australia citizens, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who want to bring their parents to live with them permanently in Australia.

With this visa you can

  • Stay in Australia as a permanent resident
  • sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia
  • if eligible, apply for Australian citizenship

This is an ‘onshore’ visa which generates a Bridging-Visa to stay-on in Australia.

You must

  • be in Australia, but not in immigration clearance, when you apply for the visa and when we decide on your application
  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia
  • not have a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa

This visa is for settled Australia citizens, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who want to bring their parents to live with them temporarily in Australia.

With this visa you can

You must

  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen
  • be old enough to receive the Australian aged pension (65 plus)
  • be in Australia, but not in immigration clearance, when you apply for this visa and when we make our decision
  • not have a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa

The eligible applicant may be able to apply for the Contributory Parents Visa (Subclass 143).

This is an ‘onshore’ visa application – it generates a Bridging-Visa to stay-n in Australia.

This temporary visa lets a parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay temporarily in Australia.

With this visa you can

You must

  • be sponsored by an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian Permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen
  • meet the balance-of-family test
  • meet all visa conditions and follow Australian law
  • not have a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa
  • You must not marry or enter into a de facto relationship before entering Australia
  • You must not enter Australia before the person specified in the visa has entered Australia

This visa is for settled Australia citizens, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who want to bring their parents to live with them temporarily in Australia.

With this visa you can

  • can visit Australia for up to 3 or 5 years per visa
  • can apply for further visas to visit up to a maximum period in Australia of 10 years
  • cannot work in Australia

You must

  • have an approved Parent Sponsor before you can lodge an application for this visa
  • apply online for this visa
  • lodge your visa application within 6 months of the sponsorship approval, or 60 days if you are given Permission to Apply in Australia

Conditions

  • no paid work
  • not be disruptive (engaging in or promoting extremist views)
  • maintain adequate health insurance
  • must leave before visa expiry
  • notify change of details as soon as practicable which could include address, phone number etc
  • must not engage in criminal conduct
  • notify new details within 14 days after any change

This visa lets a single older person, who relies on a relative financially dependent on an Australian citizen or permanent resident to live with them permanently in Australia.

With this visa you can

  • stay in Australia as a permanent resident
  • sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia
  • apply for Australian citizenship 

You must

  • be outside Australia when you apply for this visa and when we decide your application
  • be sponsored by your relative or relative’s partner
  • not marry or enter into a de facto relationship before entering Australia
  • not enter Australia before the person specified in the visa has entered Australia

This visa lets a single older person, who relies on a relative financially dependent on an Australian citizen or permanent resident to live with them permanently in Australia.

With this visa you can

  • stay in Australia as a permanent resident
  • sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia
  • apply for Australian citizenship if eligible
