Bridging visas are temporary which are granted in certain circumstances. It allows you to stay in Australia while you are waiting for you immigration status to be resolved. The type of bridging visa you will be granted depends on your circumstances. This temporary visa allows you to stay in Australia after your current substantive visa ceases and while our new substantive application is being processed.

With this visa you can

  • stay lawfully in Australia until your substantive visa application is finally determined, or where granted in association with judicial review, until those proceedings are completed
  • work, if you meet the requirements for work

You must

  • be in Australia when you apply
  • if you meet all the eligibility requirements, be in Australia at time of grant

This temporary visa with which you can leave and return t Australia during a specified travel period while your application for substantive visa is being processed.

With this visa, you can

  • stay lawfully in Australia until your substantive visa application is finally determined, or where granted in association with judicial review, until those proceedings are completed
  • leave and return to Australia within the defined travel period while your application for a substantive visa is being processed
  • work, if your BVB permits

You must

  • be in Australia when you apply for this visa
  • be the holder of a BVA or a BVB
  • have applied in Australia for a substantive visa that can be granted while you are in Australia
  • if you meet all eligibility requirements, be in Australia at the time of grant

This temporary visa allows you to stay in Australia after your current substantive visa ceases and while your new substantive visa application is being processed.

With this visa, you can

  • stay lawfully in Australia until your substantive visa application is finally determined, or where granted in association with judicial review, until those proceedings are completed
  • work, if you meet the requirements for work

You must

  • be in Australia when you apply

This temporary visa lets you stay lawfully in Australia while you make arrangements to leave, finalise your immigration matter or wait for an immigration decision.

With this visa you can

  • stay in Australia lawfully while you finalise your immigration matter or make arrangements to leave Australia

You must

  • comply with all Australian laws
  • be in Australia when the application is lodged and in order to be granted this visa, you must be in Australia when a decision is made.

You should avoid gaining unlawful status?

If you are in Australia without a visa, you are an unlawful non-citizen. This can cause problems for you, such as:

  • you risk being detained and removed from Australia
  • you might not be granted another visa for three years after you leave Australia
  • you might have a debt to the Australian Government for the cost of your removal.
